I'm 18 and looking for some people to play with. I'm taking this game seriously and I'd really like to meet a few people who wouldn't mind playing a little VS every now and then. However, I don't really want to be in a group where everything is top secret and serious, I'm mainly just looking to have a casual bit of fun, and in doing so, help to further my playing, deck building, and strategy skills. If anyone lives in Northern Kentucky or in Cincinnati(I live about 10 minutes from Cinci) and would like to let me in on a spot where I can find some players, or would like to start up a play group, or basically ANYTHING that involves me finally getting in some new competition, please PM me, post here, or email me at ZeroTolerenceDMH@hotmail.com

Acme games has tournaments every other Thursday. Also, any other day there is a chance that there is someone there playing. The tournaments usually get 4-5 people...maybe more once DC hits.

Acme is located on Beechmont Ave in Cincinnati.

I wouldn't mind getting together every once in awhile to playtest some decks or just play a few games.

Hope this helps!

That sounds great, I'll see about dropping by every now and then (once I get directions from online). It's a major bummer that everyone likes to hold tournaments on Thursdays though. I've been working with a hobby shop worker on trying to start a tournament at Comic Book World in Erlanger, KY and they are going to start up around the 19th (were planning on Mondays) and we also have play on Thursdays, just not in tournament form. I'd really like to catch one of those tournaments though.... I may go this Thursday(is there one this Thursday or next?) if I can. If you know any other Realmers that are interested maybe we can get a regular group going on. I know a few card shops that wouldn't mind letting us play whenever.

There isn't one this week, but there is next week at 6:30 I believe. You might want to look up the number and give them a call to be sure.

Maybe I'll see you next week.

I am moving down to the area (loveland) and will be looking for people to playtest with. I also heard that CCG Comic Central has tourneys on Monday, and usually people playtesting on Thurs, Fri, and Sun. If you are looking to seriously playtest, let me know. I still need to Q for the tour

There is a group of us that plays at the Comic Central on Beechmont (125/Ohio Pike) Monday nights from 6ish to 10ish. Usually we have about 8-10 people show up and do a booster draft. Did you play in any Yugi tournaments at Comic World? If you did you may already know some of the people there. If you're bored on Sunday, I'll be there 1ish to 6ish. I've got to judge the Yugi tournament, but I'll have plenty of free time to play some Vs. There will be plenty of other people making the jump from Yugi to Vs, who will be up to playing some between rounds. The Vs crowd is older (half the reason I'm migrating from Yugi to Vs) and the Sunday/Monday crowd is cool and a good mix of experienced/newbies so you won't be alone no matter what your level of experience is. I'm always up to play some Marvel, so feel free to drop me an email. bigdaddyc@fuse.net

I live in Northern Kentucky and just started playing, but I know that the Comic Book World in Florence (on Turfway Road) is having a tournament on Monday. (12th)

tfelts: Yeah I'll probably see you down there then. I'll ask around for you if I show up.

Darthvenom: Thank you for the info, I'm currently checking out a few other places as well, just found another place locally to play "Cards to Comics" or "Comics to cars" or whatever the he.ll it's called off Mt. Zion exit near Florence. I'm not sure how far Loveland is from where I live though, I have a bad sense of location heh.

BigdaddyC: Yeah I go to the Yugi tournies regularly and with the exception of the last few, I know EVERYONE lol. I wonder if your talking about Jeff, Jimmy, Josh(if you know him, did he move back to Texas yet or ship off for the Army?), and the rest of those guys....

Ziggy: Yeah I'll be there on Monday, are you going as well? If so I'll come say hi, my name is Doug Myers if you feel like finding me.

Everyone: All the info is awesome I appreciate it a ton, right now I'm trying to factor in a schedule in which I can optimize my Marvel play heh heh, I'm pretty much free every day so I'm trying to figure out where and when I'll be playing each day. I'll post up my schedule once I get it worked out and figure out what's going on with work and home. Thanks again for all the info, I truly appreciate it and hope to play against you all soon! Seems like I'll be playing Ziggy 1st though if he shows up Monday...

This is what I'm thinking so far....

Sunday: Comic Central (1:00 - 6:00)

Monday: Comic Book World (Open - Close pretty much)

Tuesday: N/A

Wednesday: N/A (If anyone knows where to play on this day let me know, also if anyone wants to come to my house to hold a casual and probably small tourny PM me)

Thursday: Comic Book World/Acme Games (just depends on if everyone wants to play at Comic Book World or not, I'm there a lot)

Friday: N/A

Saturday: N/A (Once again, if anyone knows anywhere let me know, if not I'll be playing at my house)

That's all I got right now, looking for somewhere to play tomorrow (Sat. 11th) if anyone reads this and knows where I can, let me know.

I work Sunday-Wednesday night. The optimal time to play will be Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon (unless there is a qualifier). Loveland is northeast of Cincy, along 275

Saturday afternoon would probably be best for me, though my work is undergoing some scheduling changes and I may get royally screwed here soon so I can't gaurantee that I can yet. However I definately can't this Saturday because I'll be in Colombus for the qualifier, I'm guessing you will be as well so maybe we can say hi there.

darthvenom
07-12-2004, 09:57 PM
Actually, I will not be in Columbus this Saturday, as I am moving down to Cincy that day. The next tourney that I would like to test for are all of the last minute q's at Gen Con

ZeroTolerence
07-13-2004, 09:26 PM
That sucks, Colombus is the only one I can get to so I'll either hit it big or bust. If you still wanna play though just PM me and maybe we can meet at a shop some day.

People also play Vs on Tuesday at Violet Vortex, right now there is generally at least 1 draft there and people do playtest. Because 2 people that play there are Q'd.

Okay, bringing this thread back from the dead. I am getting back into Vs., and see a lot of places are running leagues and such, but need to know what days the leagues are when tournaments are (those that are set, at least). Thanks!

The places to play in Cincinnati at the moment are:
Acme on Wenesday, right now starting at 7:30 but going to switch to 6:30 soon. Alternates constructed/draft. and there is a hobbyleague.
Yottaquest in MT Healthy on Tuesdays, not sure on all the information but they have a website at yottaquest.com with a phone # if you want to call them.

Out of curiosity, is Comic Central still running events? I used to go up there sometimes . . .

Comic Central went out of business on Memorial Day. Your best bet for Vs. events is Acme Games. They run Hobby League on Wednesdays, and they were talking about doing another Vs. night (probably Thursdays) for newer and more casual players.

I definitely encourage anyone in the cincy area to come out and play at Acme on wednesdays. If you're a casual player, there are alot of players for the hobby league, and for the competitor, there is some good testing to be had in the constructed and draft tourneys. You'll find quality players but a really really laid-back environment. Being a dick is not tolerated there.

Wednesday nights at 7:30 PM, we have a tournament. One week will be constructed and the next will be draft, alternating.
Also, there are usually people that will hang around and draft after the first tournament as well. All tournaments are sanctioned too, so work on that rating.

Constructed tournaments are $5, and all entry fees, up to $50 are paid out in prize to the top 2. Drafts are only $10, with $10 paid out to first place.

Come check us out, its really laid back and fun, and we're usually there past 1 AM.

Alot of DC modern testing going on too...

Just a heads-up: Comic Book World Florence is going to have a tournament the 9th and then after Gen Con is looking to start a Hobby League. Can't wait for it to start, because CBW is easily the best comic shop in Northern Kentucky in my opinion.

Anyone going to 10k chicago this weekend from the cincinnati area? Thks,

Small bump, but with an update.

Currently these are the stores I am playing VS. at:

Comic Book World (Florence) - Comic Book World has just started having a weekly league (Hobby League starts soon, I believe). So far there have only been about five or six people show up per week, so we mostly just play casual. Entry fee is only one booster pack - any (they still have Marvel Origins and DC Origins) and everyone up there is really cool.

ACME Games - I just started playing at ACME, but I really like it. I haven;t been up on Thursday yet, because I love drafting and we have been drafting Avengers for the past few weeks, as well as preparing for PC Indy (even though I am not attending the PC, I still help them practice).

Comics 2 Cars - They have a Hobby League every Saturday at six. I've only gone once or twice, and it seems pretty cool. Cost is five dollars per month, which automatically gets you one extended art and the chance for more.

I don't know of anywhere else that runs events. I know YottaQuest does some, but I have not been up there yet.

Thanks Ben, don't think I'll be going much then, since it is sort of far away from me, and that is when I play at Comic Book World.
